BCS - BCS takes a stand at BETT 99
[QQ]Two things very close to the British Computer Society's collective heart are communication and education, and the organisation is combining both by taking a stand at BETT 99, which runs from 13 to 16 January at London Olympia.[QQ] The BCS's involvement in the show goes far beyond simply having a stand, however. It will contribute to the free seminars running alongside the show, which aim to tackle issues impacting on the teaching of Information and Communications Technology (ICT).[QQ] The BCS offering will be a seminar entitled 'Investing in the National Grid for Learning - a stimulating and realistic professional development opportunity for your staff', which will be presented on 14 January. It will explain how to use web sites and discussion forums for ICT staff training. Topics will include simple starting and ideas, using a web site to enhance learning and teaching, evaluation of learning and costs and rewards of adopting advanced technologies.[QQ] Other sessions of interest to members include ICT and the National Curriculum Review by QCA and National Grid for Learning - a Primary Perspective by BECTa.[QQ] Each day of the sessions will start off with a keynote lecture by a recognised industry figure.[QQ] BETT 99 will also host special features, including the Book Zone, Software Centre and theNet@BETT. The aim of the show will be to offer ICT specifiers and education professionals an opportunity to see the latest developments and assess how best to achieve government requirements over the next three years. The whole event takes place against the backdrop of the government's #235 million programme to equip teachers with a selection of ICT skills by 2002, and the recent launch of the 'Needs Analysis' initiative.[QQ] For information on free tickets, and information about subsidised travel, call (01203) 426458.
