CBT training means staff stay put
British Airways may make its name from flying people around the world, but from now onwards its IT staff will stay firmly put at their desks. The airline has announced a new four-year, million pound contract with CBT systems to supply and manage computer-based training to its 2,500 IT staff.
People development manager Diane Pilot (sic) said that the move towards CBT Systems training courses would better enable staff to take control of their own development as well as attracting and retaining highly skilled staff.
Commenting on why CBT Systems' courses were chosen above three competitive suppliers, Pilot pointed to "the quality of the CBT Sytems modules" and "the range of courses on offer". She continued, "CBT Systems is very supportive and we have a CBT Systems employee on our site full time to ensure the implementation and roll out works well."
This investment in technical training is part of BA's commitment to its 'Inspired People' initiative, launched in 1997. Happily, the airline will also make substantial savings on external training courses, travel and venue hire, instead of staff travelling the world to classroom locations.
Bet they're delighted ...
