Have-a-go-hero
When computer operator Martin Townsend was driving home last week he spotted a woman lying hurt on the pavement.
So he picked her up and took her to Bristol's Southmead Hospital in his car. When he arrived at the hospital, the doctors decided the only safe way to get her out of the car was by folding the roof back of his Volkswagen Golf and lifting her out.
Sadly, Martin's car wasn't a convertible. Not until firemen went to work with their metal cutting tools, anyway.
'Her being able to walk is far more important than my car,' he said, after learning that the woman was recovering having damaged ligaments in her neck. Oh, and there's one other thing our industry's latest have-a-go-hero didn't have on his car: comprehensive insurance.
