Number conundrum

Tesco has just sent Edward Jones at National Veterinary Services a new credit card, with the little sticker on it asking him to call and acknowledge receipt.

When he called, he was greeted with the recorded message: "Please enter your credit card number, ensuring that you enter each individual number seperately". His question: "I was wondering how else I could enter 'individual numbers' when even if I were to enter '1' and '0' as '10' I would still have to press '1' and '0' to achieve this?"

Your suggestions are welcome, though not if you have a phone with the number 10 on it.
