Nokia's next Lumia rumoured to charge without wires

Microsoft promises more plugs for Lumia users

According to reports, the Next Lumia will charge using a wireless pad.

Nokia's Lumia 920 and 820 are expected to be unveiled on 5 September. If reports are true the latest Windows phones will come with a wireless charging pad, a larger than 4in screen, and a variety of colourful exteriors.

The Verge reported that the new Lumia wireless charging pads will power up with Qi's wireless power standard. The devices will charge by setting the smartphone on a power conductive pad and then waiting patiently.

Evlinks backs up the Verge's claims with pictures and more pictures. The later photo's sporting the colorful variety of Lumia cases.

Along with the new charging pad the Lumia's are rumoured to sport a plus-4in screen, 1GB of ram, and a 1.5 GHz CPU.

Nokia is reportedly unveiling the phones in two models the 820 and the 920. Both phones will run Microsoft's latest Windows Phone 8 OS. The costlier 920 will offer users more flash memory and 0.2in more screen space.

Wireless charging sounds great on paper, but by having to set your phone down on a power feeding pad Microsoft is defeating the purpose of wireless. As someone who often uses their phone when it's charging, the idea of a non-standard plug is disheartening.

Having a charging pad means users will just have one more thing to carry around in their bag. So on top of the laptop charger, and the iPad plug, Lumia fans will now get to hold on to a charging pad.

The pad's saving grace may be that if more companies adopt a charging pad consumers will only have to lug around one charging station for all devices. Just don't expect that to happen anytime soon.
