John Abel of Oracle says "Hybrid cloud is becoming the norm"
Abel discussed the hybrid cloud and the UK's position in it at a Computing event
"We find that the UK is very mature in cloud compared to other countries," John Abel of Oracle told us at Computing's recent Cloud & Infrastructure Summit 2017.
Abel - Oracle's head of technology & cloud, UK, Ireland and Israel - continued: "There's a big startup community here, there's a nig heritage community here, and the technologies are now blending - so we're seeing hybrid cloud is becoming the norm...
"We've gone to the bottom of the [hybrid cloud] hype curve, and now we're going up the other side," he said.
The biggest challenge to any change in business is culture, and that is especially true with the cloud: "There's a threat - there's a threat that my data's out there somewhere; there's a threat that my skills and my knowledge won't be required any more... These challenges need to be considered."
As for the future? "I think that the exciting period's just starting," Abel told us.
