HDS launches mainframe assault on IBM

Hitachi Data Systems said its new copper-based Skyline Trinium mainframes will have three times the capacity of the current IBM G5 system. HDS will ship a 16-way model offering 3,200Mips by the end of the year, and will extend this to 4,000Mips next year. The Trinium also boasts complete system redundancy, and Virtual Server Facility (VSF), which enables software to be charged per virtual server. Computer Associates is the first vendor to endorse VSF.
