Leo Computers reunion announced for 2005

Computing will be co-hosting the latest get together of the people that worked on the world's first business computer

More than 50 years ago, the business computer was born - not in Silicon Valley but at the Lyons bakers chain here in the UK.

It is a part of the IT and UK heritage that rarely receives the wider public recognition it deserves.

Computing is pleased to be co-hosting the 2005 reunion of the Leo Computers Society, an event that aims to bring together many of the people that worked for Leo or its successors, including ICL and English Electric.

The Society is particularly keen to welcome more people who worked on Leo computers at companies such as GPO (now BT), Ford and, Shell.

Participants are encouraged to bring along photographs or memorabilia.

The event is at The Honourable Artillery Company in City Road, London on 22 April 2005.

The Computing-backed occasion will be a chance to celebrate and reminisce but it can also be a launch pad for a much wider understanding.
