SmoothWall boosts web security
An upgrade to SmoothWall's Corporate Guardian will help firms better block web threats
Web security specialist SmoothWall has announced a major new upgrade to its flagship Corporate Guardian internet security product, which is designed to allow managers to control corporate web usage and monitor traffic more effectively.
Corporate Guardian 5, unveiled at Infosecurity Europe, features enhanced content analysis technology to block web-based threats more efficiently, according to the company’s managing director George Lungley. “Our view is that the web is becoming too big to make [blocking content by blacklisting] a sensible proposition,” he explained. “The only way is to look at the content coming through and assess whether it matches any [pre-assigned] criteria such as if it is objectionable.”
There is also a big emphasis on reporting in the new offering, including activity analysis and bandwidth utilisation capabilities, as well as integration with Crystal Reports, Lungley added.
Corporate Guardian 5 will be made available as software, and in a range of appliances supporting a maximum of 3,000 users per appliance, with clustering options to enable greater numbers, according to the firm.
