Fujitsu picks Pentium II for teamserver ranges

Fujitsu is using Intel's next-generation Pentium II chip, launched on Tuesday, in the latest models of its teamserver Ci and Gi servers, writes Robert Juman Blincoe.

Fujitsu claims benchmark tests for a 266MHz Pentium II teamserver Ci show a 37% performance improvement over the 200MHz Pentium Pro-based equivalent box.

The Ci Pentium II models come in 233MHz and 266MHz versions. They will be available in June and are priced from #2,395. The Gi products use single or dual 233MHz or 266MHz processors. These will ship this month and are priced from #4,195. Intel will introduce 300MHz and 400MHz Pentium II processors next year.
