Exabyte routes into Fibre-Channel Sans
FC12 router offers boost to speed and performance of storage area networks.
A Fibre Channel-to-SCSI router has been launched by Exabyte as aa networks. complement to the FC11 router, enabling customers to implement Exabyte tape drives into Fibre Channel-based Storage Area Networks (Sans).
The FC12 features one multi-mode Fibre Channel port and two SCSI ports which, in theory, should double the performance and allow the speeds of Fibre-based networks and Sans to be leveraged.
The Fibre Channel-to-SCSI router provides bi-directional connectivity between a single 100MBps Fibre Channel port and two Fast, Wide or Ultra SCSI buses.
Exabyte has also provided a browser-based monitoring tool to work with the FC12, which can be downloaded from the Exabyte website.
Exasoft Monitor Software provides a graphic view into the FC11 and FC12 routers for monitoring and control.
Other features include the real-time status of Fibre Channel and SCSI activity, Fibre Channel and SCSI configuration tools and graphical views of throughput information.
The main advantages of Fibre Channel include the increased performance to 100MBps, as well as support for far greater distances - up to 10km.
This allows for remote mirroring and centralised backup, as well as the option of attaching and sharing more devices on a Fibre Channel San.
The FC12 Fibre Channel-to-SCSI router from Exabyte is available immediately, with prices starting from $7,995 (#4,997).
