A Formula for noise reduction

Acoustic scientists from Lucent's Bell Labs research and development arm are working with Formula 1 team Jordan to improve car-to-pit communications.

Lucent - Jordan's global innovation partner - is working to allow drivers to communicate more clearly with the pit crews both during races and in practice sessions, using advanced noise cancellation technology. This is essential considering the cockpit noise levels produced by the 800-horsepower engine running just behind the driver's head can reach 10,000 times the level of normal conversation.
