Ultraportable outlasts rivals

Panasonic's latest A5-size laptop can operate for a respectable time despite its small size and light weight

Panasonic's new ToughBook CF-R1 may appeal to mobile professionals thanks to its small size and longer than average battery life. The slimline ultraportable has a 10.4in TFT display, runs Windows XP and has a battery life of up to six hours, according to Panasonic.

The ToughBook CF-R1 weighs less than 1kg and measures 240x182x24mm. While there are some other compact laptops on the market, few can last longer than a couple of hours on their small built-in batteries without a recharge.

The ToughBook has a 800MHz Intel Mobile Pentium III-M chip, a 20GB hard disk and up to 256MB memory. A full review will follow shortly.
