BP signs another software outsourcing deal
Accenture wins latest contract, to support SAP development
BP is outsourcing software development work
BP has announced another major software outsourcing deal, following yesterday’s contract wins by Indian firms TCS and Infosys.
The energy giant has now signed up Accenture to help simplify, standardise and consolidate its software applications, with the aim of improving efficiency and managing IT costs. In particular, Accenture will be BP’s strategic service provider for SAP development work.
"I’ve been very pleased with the quality of Accenture’s proposal and to have selected them as one of our strategic application development and application maintenance vendors,” said Dana Deasy, BP Group chief information officer.
“This contract will help BP to accelerate the implementation of SAP across the organisation, and lower our overall cost base.”
Over the past 12 months. the firm has consolidated the high number of vendors it employed down to a few larger contracts.
TCS is to handle application development and application maintenance for refining, manufacturing and corporate IT maintenance work.
Infosys will deliver application development and application maintenance work in BP’s integrated supply and trading, and exploration and production businesses.
