Sun NC to run Windows using Insignia's NTrigue

Users of Sun Microsystems' forthcoming Javastation network computer (NC) will run Microsoft Windows and NT applications using software from Insignia Solutions. Sun will bundle Insignia's NTrigue X Client for Java with its new devices.

The NTrigue client is an applet that enables the Javastation to run Windows software via Insignia's NT-based NTrigue server software, which delivers Microsoft applications to various desktop platforms.

David Angwin, European marketing manager for Insignia said: 'This makes the thin client a solution you can deploy now with Windows applications, and deploy or develop Java applications for in future. Without Windows compatibility, it would be an uphill battle to establish the NC.'

This extension of the NTrigue range is the first fruit of Sun's technology tie-up with Insignia announced earlier this year.

The X Client was demonstrated at the Javastation launch in New York last week and Sun's salesforce will recommend it as a preferred solution to Javastation and Sparcstation customers who want to run Windows packages. The Javastation will ship in December.

'Insignia has developed technology that provides Sun customers with a 100% Windows-compatible solution running the applications at server performance levels,' said Steve Tirado, director of marketing at Sun's Java systems group. 'These applications are available to Sun workstations, Javastations or any Java-enabled browser or desktop.'

NTrigue incorporates the Winframe Internet Windows software from Citrix, which is part-owned by Microsoft.
