Melting Worm turns on Windows

A worm has been discovered in the wild that can shut down Windows platforms and make the OS permanently unusable. The Melting Worm, known as Win32/Melting.worm, infects through Microsoft Outlook on Windows 95, 98, 2000 or NT. It copies itself into a Windows directory as MeltingScreen.exe and remains in memory.

A worm has been discovered in the wild that can shut down Windows platforms and make the OS permanently unusable. The Melting Worm, known as Win32/Melting.worm, infects through Microsoft Outlook on Windows 95, 98, 2000 or NT. It copies itself into a Windows directory as MeltingScreen.exe and remains in memory.

Ultimately the worm renders the OS useless, before e-mailing itself to names in the address book.
