TMA demands BT regulation
The Telecommunications Managers Association (TMA) has demanded stronger safeguards from telecoms watchdog Oftel to protect UK businesses from BT's globalisation plans. The TMA fears that quality, choice and cost of service will be adversely affected by BT's increased focus outside the UK, and by pressure from its Concert partners and international shareholders.
British Steel deal for Cap Gemini Cap Gemini will this month take over desktop and distributed computing operations at British Steel subsidiary Engineering Steels. The four-year u3m contract moves Cap Gemini closer to British Steel, which is currently in talks with Cap Gemini and EDS over a u350m four-year outsourcing contract for all IT. IBM was dismissed after five months of negotiation for the same job. Cap Gemini has already managed the migration from IBM to Digital hardware at another British Steel subsidiary, Avesta Sheffield.
