IBM downsizes storage

A new compact storage option arrives today from Big Blue

IBM is the latest storage giant to woo IT buyers with capacity increases and management capabilities cribbed from its mainframe heritage.

The TotalStorage DS6000 ultra-dense server system is "slightly larger than a VCR", according to IBM. The big brother to the system is the TotalStorage DS8000 series that provides clients with virtualised storage pools consolidated from smaller systems, and can address up to 96 petabytes of data.
