Ford scraps Oracle-based purchasing system

Car maker reverts to old legacy systems

Car giant Ford is reportedly abandoning a $200m web-based purchasing project because it can't get the software to work properly.

Ford is scrapping the Everest project which is largely-based on Oracle software and reverting to its old legacy applications, according to Reuters.

The project was meant to manage the company's business with its suppliers, covering payments and purchases.

'We are going back to the proven legacy systems that are still in place,' said a Ford spokeswoman. 'We made a business decision.'

Ford started working on the project with Oracle in 2000 and it says 'there were many factors' involved in its decision to revert to its old systems.

Some 300 to 350 staff will be reassigned to other IT projects within Ford.
