Citrix brings ICA to Mac and Unix

Citrix Systems? has extended its Winframe Independent Computing Architecture (ICA) clients to Unix workstations and Macintosh computers.

The offering will eliminate the need for users of thin clients to install emulation software or hardware to access Windows-based applications.

Given Citrix? acquisition of Insignia Solutions? Ntrigue Unix and X technology set, the move comes as no real surprise, although Citrix said it has separate plans for the Ntrigue toolset and it won?t offer it as part of WinFrame.

David Weiss, director of product management, added: ?Unix and Mac ICA clients further our goal of providing universal access to Windows-based applications.?

The new clients enable Unix and Mac users to access Windows-based applications for email, word processing and other office functions.

The software can be downloaded free from the company?s Web site.
