Trident declared bug-free
Minister vouches for UK's nuclear missiles.
[QQ]The UK's Trident missile system is millennium bug-free, according to carefully-worded assurances given to Parliament this week.[QQ] Defence Minister Doug Henderson told MPs: 'Specifically, the mission-critical sub-systems of the Trident II (D5) Strategic Weapons System have already been certified as year 2000 compliant.'[QQ] Henderson, however, did not mention non mission critical systems - or the computer systems used to operate the Trident nuclear missile submarine and its own nuclear reactors.[QQ] The government minister had been asked about 'problems in relation to the Trident missile system'.[QQ] Robin Guenier, chairman of pressure group Taskforce 2000, said that the Ministry of Defence had 'a most significant problem with huge numbers of critical systems'.[QQ] Guenier added: 'Missile systems are fail safe if there are software problems.[QQ] So there is very little danger of an unexpected nuclear holocaust.'
