BT's website points to higher costs for PBX customers

BT has been criticised following its claims that PBX systems will not work with its Business Highway system.

BT's Business Highway website says that to get this functionality, customers must upgrade to more expensive ISDN or leased line options.

The common questions page on BT's home page says: "Business Highway cannot be used through a switch (PBX) and does not support Direct Dial In (DDI) or Line Hunting, whereas ISDN 2e does."

Adrian Kennard, of integrator Andrews & Arnold and a BT ISDN reseller, said that: "This is a blanket statement and not entirely true." He said that businesses could be forced to upgrade to ISDN when they didn't need to.

"Most ISDN PBXs will operate in point to point or point multipoint systems. BT is incorrect to say this is not the case," he said.
