New network for HM Prison Service

HM Prison Service has spent £200m outsourcing its wireless Lans and IT infrastructure to EDS. The 12-year Quantum project will replace more than 12,500 desktops and 30,000 telephones. The network will run on Windows and allow records to be stored, updated and transferred electronically to avoid double data entry.

The network will run on Windows and allow records to be stored, updated and transferred electronically to avoid double data entry.

Spectrum24 wireless Lan infrastructure will be used where cabling would be inappropriate. Future projects are likely to include enhanced prisoner information system and improved personnel and finance systems. Martin Narey, director of the prison service, said: "The reason for this partnership, is to become better at keeping prisoners in safe custody and preparing them for release."
