Siemens IT staff at BBC accept new pay offer

Staff accept deal to avert proposed industrial action

Staff voted overwhelmingly (88.9 percent) for the pay offer

IT staff working for the BBC’s contractor, Siemens, have accepted a pay offer, thereby averting further threatened strike action.

The staff, members of the media union Bectu, had been balloting for strike action as a result of the broadcaster’s decision to introduce a pay freeze.

An overwhelming 89.9 per cent of members opted to accept the revised pay deal.

Siemens staff at the BBC will now receive a consolidated flat-rate payment of £300 (pro-rata for part-time staff) and arrangements will be made to follow through on discussions about performance-related pay.

"Members have voted to accept the pay offer which resolves the outstanding trade dispute and the industrial action ballot is now null and void," confirmed Bectu national official Suresh Chawla.
