O2 latest to enter broadband fray

But it will only offer connection speeds that can be delivered, says the firm

O2 hopes to attract 1 million subscribers to its broadband service by 2010

O2 is the latest telco to enter the broadband market, with today's launch aiming to attract customers unhappy with current connection speeds.

Sixty two per cent of broadband users are achieving less than half of their advertised speed, according to a recent study by consumer magazine Computeractive, in conjunction with BroadbandChoices and Thinkbroadband.com.

O2 says its service will only offer speeds that can be delivered upon.

Connections of up to 20 MBit/s will be provided using the former network of Be Broadband, the internet service provider acquired by O2 acquired in June 2006 for £50m.

The service has a target of 1 million customers and turning a profit by 2010.
