Guidance improves computer forensics

Upgraded EnCase products feature greater scalability and ease-of-use

Computer forensics specialist Guidance Software has launched a new version of its flagship EnCase digital investigation platform designed to speed up investigations and featuring expanded support for file systems and email formats.

EnCase Version 6, which expands the capabilities of both Enterprise and Forensic versions of the product, includes native 64-bit support to enable " almost unlimited scalability when conducting investigations", according to the firm's director of product management Brian Karney.

There are also capabilities to speed up and automate the traditionally time-consuming investigating process, such as the ability to natively review files, he added.

Support has been increased for more file systems, including core Novell file systems and corporate messaging servers, enabling firms to carry out full forensic analysis on Notes and Exchange files.

"Version 6 is about putting in all the things organisations need to effectively conduct digital investigations and we'll continue to add on more capabilities in the future," explained Karney.
