Yo! Sushi speeds payment with new till technology

New platform reduces errors in payment processing and enables use of contactless cards

New POS system helped increase tipping at Yo! Sushi

Restaurant chain Yo! Sushi has upgraded its point-of-sale (POS) system to speed up payment processing while reducing potential transaction mistakes made by staff at the till.

The platform, which is in use in 30 of the chain’s 40 restaurants, also enables contactless payments. The additional functionality allows clients to hold bank cards embedded with contactless technology against a reader to make purchases of £10 or less without the need to enter a PIN code.

According to Yo! Sushi, the time in which card authorisations are processed has dropped from one minute to under two seconds after the implementation of the new system, which uses a broadband connection as opposed to the previous fixed-line arrangement.

Another feature of the new POS system enables clients to use the payment terminal to add a gratuity, whereas previously staff had to request tips from customers.

“[The new technology] has removed the added risk of manual error and the gratuity application has resulted in an increase in tips,” said Bill Waters, IT manager at Yo! Sushi.

“All of these things have led to our employees to describe the system as the best credit card solution they have used,” said Waters.

“It has made our employees’ lives easier as they no longer need to key in customer bill totals to the chip-and-PIN terminal.”

The system was supplied by Commidea, in partnership with Clarity Commerce Solutions.
