Timpanogas eases NT and NetWare interoperability

The first Symmetrical Multi-Processing (SMP) implementation of Novell's NetWare file system hosted on the NT platform has been announced by Timpanogas Research Group (TRG). FENRIS is compatible with NetWare 386, 4.x, and 5.0 file system formats.

All features of Novell's existing file systems are available, including support for NetWare volumes and partitions, dynamic hot-fix data redirection, mirroring and partition fault tolerance, multi-segment volume striping, namespace support, sub-allocation and file.

"FENRIS provides a solution for customers who require better interoperability between the NetWare and Windows NT platforms in their businesses," said Jeff Merkey, CEO of TRG. "With FENRIS, customers can host native NetWare file systems on Windows NT and can switch between the platforms freely with a common file system format."

Because it maintains the native file system format of NetWare on NT, administrators can alternately mount NetWare and Windows NT on a server without risk of corrupting their data. This should, in turn, allow greater freedom for running benchmark tests within private environments, as well as optimise OS choices for specific servers within mixed environments.

The first version of FENRIS will be released in the second quarter of 1999, and will be available for download over the internet.
