Nvidia rolls out new high-end graphics cards

Nvidia's Quadro line is aimed at the engineering and scientific imaging fields

Graphics hardware firm Nvidia has rolled out a new line of graphics cards aimed at enterprise users.

The high-end cards in the new Quadro line will target the engineering and scientific imaging fields in particular, and will be among the most powerful cards the company has ever produced.

The Quadro line will range from the low-end NVS 295 priced at under $100 (£69) to the high-end FX 5800, which will sport 4GB of graphics memory and a pair of dual-link DVI connections.

The cards are designed for systems that process high-resolution 3D models and other large visual computing tasks.

"Our mission with Quadro is to help customers solve the world's most challenging visual computing problems," said Dan Vivoli, executive vice president of marketing at Nvidia. "The new lineup, with the flagship Quadro FX 5800, sets the stage for the next 10 years of innovation."

The company plans to maintain the Quadra brand for its enterprise graphics cards, while the GeForce series will target consumers and gaming enthusiasts. The high-performance computing line of Nvidia products will still be known as Tesla.
