Acer aims Aspire 5745PG at on-the-go business users
Powerful touch-screen laptop designed for demanding business apps
The Acer Aspire 5745PG starts at £699
Acer has launched the Aspire 5745PG, a touch-screen laptop designed to handle demanding business and multimedia applications on the move.
The 5745PG weighs in at 2.75Kg including the battery, and features a 15.6in HD LED-backlit TFT LCD screen with a 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution and integrated multi-touch screen, supporting navigation via finger touch.
The multi-gesture touchpad supports pinch-to-zoom, circular motion scrolling and page flipping, which could be useful when reading long documents or PDF reports on the move.
The panel uses LED backlight technology that reproduces high-quality images and increases readability in low light conditions, Acer claimed.
Customers can choose an Intel Core i3, i5 or i7 processor, and the top-end chipsets can easily handle multiple power hungry applications, the firm said.
Various hard drives are available up to 640GB, and the 5745PG has a multi-card reader supporting SD, MMC, MS, MS PRO and xD formats.
The dual-channel DDR3 RAM is upgradable to 16GB, allowing for smooth operation and faster, more efficient multitasking, the manufacturer said.
The Aspire 5745PG comes with a range of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi, Gigabit LAN and Bluetooth 3.0, while a Crystal Eye webcam features a 1,280 x 1,024 resolution, which could make it useful for business videoconference calls.
Acer TouchPortal, a full suite of touch applications which allows users to add widgets to control music or set up social networking feeds, is also incorporated, and the laptop has a built-in Blu-ray/DVD combination drive.
A maximum battery life of 3.5 hours is quoted, but Acer's QuicCharge technology is said to be capable of regaining 80 per cent of the battery's charge within one hour of being plugged in. A two-hour rapid charge is also an option if the device is switched off.
The Acer Aspire 5745PG is available now starting at £699.
