CES 2010: Netgear launches two new routers

One device wins award at CES for Design and Engineering

Networking and storage vendor Netgear has announced the release of two new routers at CES that it claims will benefit mobile workers by offering the ability to connect to 3G, 4G and WiMax cellular networks.

The company said that the devices will be ideal for remote workers who need to set up an internet connection with both wireless and cellular connectivity options, especially when there are no DSL, cable, fibre or satellite networks available.

The first device, the 3G/4G Mobile Broadband Wireless-N Router (MBRN3000), has 802.11n wireless capability combined with connectivity to a high-speed cellular network through an external 3G/4G/WiMax modem, said the firm.

The second, the Wireless-N 300 Router with DSL Modem - Mobile Broadband Edition (DGN2200M), offers the same multiple access connectivity, and includes a built-in ADSL2+ modem to enable a DSL connection along with a 3G/4G/WiMax failover option.

Som Pal Choudhury, Netgear's senior product line manager for advanced wireless products, explained that the devices had been introduced to meet the rising demand for cellular networks.

"While connecting via DSL, cable, fibre and satellite broadband are always viable options, high-speed cellular networks are growing at a phenomenal rate," he said.
