Lenovo announces enterprise ThinkCentre M91 desktops

M91 and M91p set to deliver improved security and high performance

Lenovo has unveiled the ThinkCentre M91 family of desktops aimed at providing enterprise users with high-performance, secure and affordable machines.

The ThinkCentre M91p will feature Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, while the M91 will ship with an Intel Core i3 chip. All models will feature integrated Intel HD graphics capabilities, with particular models capable of supporting up to 16GB of DDR3 RAM.

The ThinkCentre M91p is primarily targeted at IT administrators who manage a large fleet of PCs, according to Lenovo.

M91p models will have Intel vPro security technology incorporated into the underlying hardware, making them less vulnerable to security threats, the manufacturer claimed.

Selected models will be able to support up to one additional hard drive and up to four monitors simultaneously, as Lenovo looks to entice employees who regularly use multiple displays.

Both the M91 and M91p will include a SATA III interface, allowing data to be written and read two times faster than previous versions. USB 3.0 ports will also be integrated, allowing data between devices to be transferred up to 10 times faster than USB 2.0.

Security features include a Trusted Platform Module, a secure crypto-processor chip that manages encryption keys and processes. IT admins will also have the ability to disable USB ports, allowing data transfer between PCs to be managed effectively, Lenovo added.

Lenovo ThinkVantage Technologies will be included to help users back up and recover data, update PCs and control power management.

"We've packed the ThinkCentre M91 and M91p desktops with the latest performance technologies, like Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0, to give users and IT departments a noticeable difference in the way they work," said Tom Shell, vice president of ThinkCentre desktop marketing at Lenovo.

"Now PC users can quickly open and save data, view graphics and video faster and stream work across four monitors."

The ThinkCentre desktops will be available in available in tower, small and eco small form factors.

Lenovo is due to start shipping the M91p in April, with prices starting at £560. The M91 model will follow in June, and will be available from £520. Prices exclude VAT and shipping, however, and desktops will be available from resellers and directly from Lenovo.
