Oracle unveils virtual desktop app for the iPad

The app supports Oracle's Siebel CRM

Oracle has released a virtual desktop app that is now available for free from Apple's App Store.

The app provides users with access to desktops managed by Orcale's Sun Ray Software and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, and supports a range of enterprise applications. For example, Oracle's Siebel CRM is fully supported.

"With the introduction of Oracle Virtual Desktop Client App for iPad, we continue to offer customers innovative ways to access a broad range of virtual desktop environments and enterprise applications," said Wim Coekaerts, senior vice president, linux and virtualisation engineering, Oracle.

"When used in conjunction with Oracle's Sun Ray Software and Oracle Virtual Desktop Infrastructure, customers benefit from enhanced security, centralised administration, lower cost, and better access to their corporate data from the iPad".

This announcement reflects Oracle's continuing attempt to create a complete desktop-to-datacentre virtualisation portfolio that allows its customers to manage their software and hardware stack, from application through to disk.

Security features include built-in virtual private network functionality, where users can access corporate desktops and applications, as well as AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) encryption for user sessions.
