Intel Capital invests £15m in software companies
Announcement comes ahead of the Intel Developer Forum
Intel Capital, Intel Corporation's worldwide investment arm, has invested over $24m (£15.2m) in seven software companies to help it achieve its long-term aim of developing software to accompany advances in chip production.
The companies it has invested in include DynamicOps, the provider of the Operations Virtualization platform.
Intel said that the platform enables cloud automation and management, and allows companies to move their existing infrastructure into public or private cloud services.
Other investments include money provided to building management software provider enLighted, and IP Commerce, a supplier of platform-as-a-service that functions as a commerce operating system.
Intel has also invested in Guavus, which provides solutions using real-time analytics on large data for Fortune 1000 ventures, and Swrve New Media, a social games analytics service provider.
Cloud gaming supplier Gaikai and commercial provider Revolution Analytics, which have already been recipients of money from Intel, have been given additional cash.
Arvind Sodhani, Intel Capital president, said these investments demonstrate "Intel's commitment to investing in support of this software ecosystem."
The companies that have received investment are described as "early stage" companies by Intel.
The announcement came prior to the Intel Developer Forum, a conference tailored for software developers.
