Rolls-Royce signs three-year outsourcing deal with Capgemini
As service integrator Capgemini will oversee IT services from various vendors, aiming to ensure they operate effectively together
Rolls-Royce has signed a three-year outsourcing deal with Capgemini, who will perform the role of service integrator, overseeing IT services provided by other outourcers.
The deal, which includes an option to be extended by a further two years, is part of an IT initiative at Rolls-Royce to move from a single-vendor to a multiple-vendor strategy.
Capgemini is tasked with working with Rolls-Royce to ensure that the different vendors and solutions are fully aligned, integrated and centrally controlled so that 40,000 Rolls-Royce IT users across 50 countries can benefit from a seamless service.
Simon Ricketts, CIO at Rolls-Royce, said that Capgemini will be central to his new strategy.
"It is vital that our products, services and people are supported by world-class IT and that is what our new strategy is designed to achieve."
Ricketts added that Capgemini beat other IT integrators in the bidding process due to its experience in managing multi-vendor environments.
According to Ricketts, Capgemini was also selected partly on the strength of its security expertise, and experience in working with police, aerospace, defence and security organisations around the globe.
The contract will begin by the end of this year.
