Motorola adds three models to Droid Razr line-up

New Android handsets to be available first on Verizon

Motorola has added a trio of handsets to its Droid line, as part of a series of partnership announcements with US carrier Verizon.

Motorola said on Wednesday that the new Droid smartphones would be available first on Verizon's network in the US, although no word was given on UK availability.

The new handsets include a new 4.3in model, a 4.7in HD model and a 4.7in model which boasts an ultra-long battery life.

Headlining the release was the new Razr M handset. The 4.3in model has been upgraded with a dual-core 1.5ghz processor and LTE wireless broadband connectivity. The Razr M will ship with Android Ice Cream Sandwich and users will be able to upgrade upon release of Android Jelly Bean.

The company is also extending the Razr's screen size with the Razr HD. The 4.7in handset sports a Super Amoled HD touchscreen. The handset will offer six hours battery life when using LTE networks and a 12 hour battery life with Wi-Fi network connectivity.

For users looking for extended battery life, Motorola is launching the Razr HD Maxx. The 4.7in handset will offer a 32-hour battery life with normal phone use and eight hours of battery life with LTE use, the company claimed.

Motorola's unveiling comes just hours after one of its biggest competitors unveiled new handsets of its own. Nokia announced its first Windows Phone 8 handset in the 4.5in Lumia 920 smartphone.

The events both occurred exactly one week before Apple is scheduled to provide the first official look at its new iPhone model. The handset, which has been rumoured to be set for release later this month, will likely offer a larger screen size and a new case design which will singificantly reduce the iPhone's thickness.
