HP updates small business PCs with AMD Trinity chips

Compaq Pro 6305 desktop and ProBook 4545s laptops offer latest A-series APUs

HP has added new desktop and mobile PCs to its line-up for small to medium businesses (SMBs) based on AMD's latest APU chips which are set to ship with Windows 8 once Microsoft's new platform is officially launched.

The HP Compaq Pro 6305 desktop PC and HP ProBook 4545s (pictured) laptop lines are both based on AMD's 2012 A-Series of accelerated processor units (APUs), which combine both GPU and CPU cores onto the same chip for improved performance.

Available worldwide from 8 October, the Compaq Pro 6305 appears to be an AMD-based version of the existing Compaq Pro 6300 line, and will ship in both a small form factor and a microtower format, offering the choice between space-saving footprint or the extra connectivity and expandability of a traditional desktop design.

With the latest AMD chips, the Compaq Pro 6305 delivers up to 21 percent greater performance than previous generations, including significant graphics improvement for intensive business applications, HP said.

It will ship with Windows 7 initially, but Windows 8 configurations will be available at a later date.

Meanwhile, the HP ProBook 4545s is available worldwide immediately with configurations up to a 2.8GHz quad-core A8-4500M APU, 8GB memory and up to 750GB of disk storage.

The 15.6in laptop weighs in at 2.33kg and can be configured with optional AMD Radeon discrete graphics, with AMD's Enduro Technology automatically switching back to the internal GPU when on batteries to save power.

HP said the ProBook 4545s costs from $499 in the US, but UK pricing has yet to be disclosed.

HP also unveiled new consumer systems including the HP Pavilion Sleekbook 14 and Pavilion Sleekbook 15 PCs, plus the HP Envy m4.
