Windows Phone 8 early adopters bemoan rebooting issues
Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC Windows Phone 8X are the culprits
Users of Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system are reporting that their handsets are randomly rebooting, causing much frustration among those who have taken a chance on the new OS.
According to scores of users on Microsoft's and Nokia's support forums, the HTC Windows Phone 8X and Nokia Lumia 920 handsets are both suffering random reboots. Others meanwhile have bemoaned the poor battery life on these two Windows Phone 8 smartphones.
"I purchased my phone in-store yesterday morning. Around 11am yesterday after only two hours of use, the phone froze up and I had to perform a hard reset," one user wrote on the Nokia forums.
A disappointed HTC 8X user added, "It was fine for a few days then a couple of reboots within a couple of hours. All was ok again until yesterday when I got two reboots within about five hours of each other. I wasn't doing anything on the phone at the time. I just felt it vibrate and I had the HTC logo on the screen."
We have been using both of the Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC Windows Phone 8X handsets and haven't noticed any issues with either the handsets' batteries or random rebooting.
This could suggest that the issue is limited to handsets purchased in the US, but we are yet to confirm this.
HTC is yet to respond to our request for comment, but Nokia has confirmed that it has received complaints from a small number of users, and said it is investigating the issue.
"We have received reports of a small number of people experiencing unusual battery performance on their Nokia Lumia 920," a company representative said.
"We are investigating, but we currently suspect that some applications may be using power when left running in the background.
"While we learn more, we advise people when finished with an application to navigate away using the back button as this will close it rather than leaving it active in the background."
Nevertheless, these aren't the only issues that Windows Phone 8 users have been quick to vent about, as Microsoft's mobile operating system still suffers from a distinct lack of apps.
Although Skype eventually launched an app almost two weeks after Windows Phone 8 launched, users are still hoping that apps from Spotify and Instagram will crop up soon.
