Nokia lands Dutch injunction against HTC One
Lumia maker ups patent war with microphone technology claims
An Amsterdam District Court has granted Nokia a preliminary injunction against the HTC One, in a dispute over microphone technology.
Nokia said in a statement to V3 that it has filed over 40 patent lawsuits against HTC all over the world.
"In its marketing materials, HTC claims that its HDR microphone is a key feature for the HTC One, but it is Nokia technology, developed exclusively for use in Nokia products," said a Nokia spokesperson.
"This is one of the latest in a number of cases brought by Nokia to end HTC's unauthorised use of Nokia's inventions. More than 40 Nokia patents have been asserted against HTC in Germany, the US and the UK."
Nokia reports that HTC is using the microphone technology without a licence. The Lumia 920 maker says that it invested and exclusively manufactured the microphone technology prior to the HTC One's release.
In response to the injunction, HTC told V3 that it would review whether the injunction will affect its current business plan for the One handset.
"HTC is disappointed in the decision. We are considering whether it will have any impact on our business and we will explore alternative solutions immediately," said a HTC spokesperson in statement sent into V3.
HTC One smartphones has been bogged down with troubles since their announcement earlier this year. Along with the injunction, the handset has struggled with a slew of delays.
The well-liked device was only originally released in just three countries before being rolled out wider. HTC had originally intended to drop the device in 80 countries upon initial launch.
HTC has also claimed to be a victim of a Samsung smear campaign. The Taiwanese firm said Samsung has been paying reviewers to post negative comments of the company's handsets.
