Anglo American deploys Box collaboration tools to 10,000 staff worldwide

Global mining company selects Box to improve the connected workplace environment

Anglo American, one of the world's largest mining companies, has chosen Box to provide a cloud content sharing and collaboration platform to its 10,000 employees across the world.

The mining company, headquartered in London, has selected Box to address employees' needs for internal and external collaboration and remote access to critical business documents. Box will also manage Anglo American's IT requirements for centralised management and security.

Aaron Levie, CEO of the privately held online storage and collaboration firm, took time out to speak with Computin g at last year's BoxWorks customer and partner event in San Francisco.

With previous solutions, Anglo American was limited to internal file sharing and therefore found it challenging to share documents with external organisations such as mining providers, legal firms and consultants.

Anglo American employees also previously lacked the ability to access content via mobile or offline, which disadvantaged those based in more remote locations including Africa and Latin America.

The IT team examined a number of cloud solutions for file sharing, mobile access and external collaboration before deciding on Box, which according to David Heppenstall, CIO at Anglo American, met all the requirements to help foster productivity in a digital workplace.

"Sustainable development, efficiency and empowering a global workforce are the key initiatives that drive our business forward. When you create a more productive, connected workplace environment, communication thrives and everyone benefits," he said.

"Moving to a cloud technology like Box that allows us to centralise all our content and provide a secure, simple and efficient tool for our employees was a natural fit for our company."

David Quantrell, Box general manager of EMEA, also welcomed the partnership with Anglo American.

"A company's ability to securely share and manage information can be the difference between winning and losing in today's increasingly competitive market," he said.

"Anglo American's deployment underscores the adoption we've seen worldwide as businesses turn to Box to help increase speed and productivity with the enterprise-grade security and mobile controls IT needs with the simplicity that users gravitate toward."
