HM Treasury opts for NTT Data to provide IT services

Deal could be worth up to £250m, according to tender notice

HM Treasury has selected Japanese firm NTT Data to provide IT services as part of the organisation's ICT 2015 programme.

The three-year contract means that NTT Data will provide management oversight of HM Treasury's ICT 2015 service, including coordination of other suppliers (SIAM), cloud hosting services and applications replatforming.

The contract has been awarded as part of HM Treasury's ICT 2015 initiative, which, like many other government programmes in recent years, is designed to ensure a move away from single suppliers, and to offer more opportunities to SMEs and companies that are yet to be involved in UK public-sector work.

Karen Delafield, HM Treasury's CIO, said that she was looking forward to working with NTT Data in the delivery of the core IT services.

"This is the largest Tower in our new operating model and the capability, energy and commitment that NTT Data will bring to this contract will play a critical role in driving forward change and transforming how ICT works in HM Treasury in the coming three years," she said.

Although financial terms were not disclosed, HM Treasury had tendered for core IT services in December 2013, in a contract that could be worth up to £250m. It formed part of a broader contract that included printing services and media and wireless services.

At the time, it said core IT services would include three different types of services: service integration; core applications services, which include the imaging of end-user devices, commercial off-the-shelf and office productivity software; and core applications platform services, which include data centre and server infrastructure, maintenance and support services.

Anna Price, head of public sector and financial services at NTT Data, said the firm was delighted to secure the contract, which is the company's first major services deal for central government in the UK.
