Top 10 most read: Microsoft job cuts, Raspberry Pi B+, botnet armies for hire

The major news last week was the announcement that Microsoft plans to cut 18,000 jobs, with around two-thirds of those coming from the Nokia mobile division, and the same number again due to find out their fate within the next six months.

The cuts represent 14 percent of the current workforce, and will see Microsoft become around twice the size of Google as an organisation, a huge drop from the company's historical highs.

On the security front, the biggest concerns last week came with the use of botnet armies, which the FBI warned are able to infect as many as 18 systems per second. Many of the botnets are currently rentable, and the high infection rate is costing the global economy billions of dollars.

As the cloud continues its dominance in the tech space, we've put together our list of the top 10 reasons to take advantage of the cloud, from being greener to saving money. It's a handy guide for any IT manager looking to get sign-off for extra cloud investment.

There was also much excitement over the release of the latest model of the Raspberry Pi micro computer, which adds more ports but retains its very reasonable $35 price tag. Although it is worth pointing out you'd be hard pressed to find it for the equivalent cost in the UK, where it's more likely to cost upwards of £27.
