Transport for London selects Computacenter and CSC as part of £80m IT framework
Four UK suppliers chosen to provide hardware, software and services across organisation
Transport for London (TfL) has selected four UK IT suppliers to provide computer hardware, software and services across the organisation.
Computacenter, CSC, Insight Direct and Proband have been placed on a Reseller and Associated Services Framework for services and products such as desktops, laptops and mobile devices for which TfL claims it can request competitive quotes.
The contract is expected to be worth between £40m and £80m, and the duration of the agreement is two years with the option to extend for a further two, one year at a time.
Steve Townsend, CIO at TfL, said the purpose of the framework is to give TfL "fast and easy access to the products we regularly need, at the quality we demand while delivering value for money for fare and taxpayers".
"The framework also gives these suppliers the opportunity to work with us as we look at ways to transform the way we provide long-term technological benefits through efficiencies to our staff and the millions of passengers who use our network each day," he added.
In an interview with Computing in July, Townsend explained how TfL was collecting and exploiting data. He said data analysis would enable the organisation to make better decisions about when and where staff should be deployed, and that sharing data internally could open up new avenues externally, for both developers and advertisers.
