MWC: Lenovo launches Android Lollipop Tab 2 A8 tablet
Device to land in June costing $129
BARCELONA: Lenovo has unveiled its first Android 5.0 Lollipop tablet, the Tab 2 A8, alongside the KitKat powered Tab 2 A10-70 and Windows powered Ideapad MIIX 300.
The Lenovo Tab 2 A8 comes with an 8in HD screen, 64-bit quad-core MediaTek processor, and an undisclosed battery that Lenovo claims will last eight hours.
The device also supports 4G connectivity and features a basic 5MP rear camera, 32GB of internal storage that can be upgraded via microSD and custom Dolby Atmos audio.
The Lenovo Tab A8 is set to launch in selected regions in June with prices starting at $129. The use of Android 5.0 Lollipop will prove a key selling point for the Tab 2 A8.
Launched on Google's Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 devices in October, Android 5.0 Lollipop is a milestone update that adds several key features and services.
These include a reworked Material design and notifications system, improved encryption and a custom SELinux enforcing mode.
Lollipop also means that the Tab 2 A8 will be compatible with Google's newly launched Android for Work mobile management solution.
The larger Tab 2 A10-70 will launch running Google's older Android Kitkat software and feature a 10.1in 1920x1080 screen, LTE support, 8MP rear-facing camera and a quad-core MediaTek chip.
The Lenovo Tab 2 A10-710 will be available in April priced at $199.
In a sideways move the 8in Ideapad Miix 300 will run using Microsoft's Windows 8.1 software and be powered by an undisclosed Intel Atom processor. The Ideapad Miix 300 will launch in July priced at $149.
