Nationwide picks eggPlant tools for software testing

Building society chooses testing software from TestPlant to support its transition to digital services

Building society Nationwide has picked TestPlant's eggPlant tools as its testing platform for its mobile and multi-browser development.

The company, which is in the middle of a digital transformation, will use eggPlant Functional and eggPlant for Mobile to support its transition to digital services.

"The rapid growth in digitlisation of our services needs to be supported by testing systems that will ensure the quality of our services and applications, and that is why we have selected TestPlant," said Andrew Young, head of testing services at Nationwide.

According to TestPlant, the eggPlant Functional tool uses image-recognition technology to enable software developers to test any application by looking at and interacting with the screen, just as an end user would.

Nationwide will also be deploying eggCloud to centralise access to mobile devices for testing, as well as eggMan and eggBox to support manual testers and help speed up deployment of eggPlant.

"Not only do the eggPlant products provide excellent cross-platform capabilities from desktop to mobile, but they are also easy to use and rapid to deploy, making them the right choice for Nationwide and our ambitious implementation timeframe," said Young.

In recent years, the building society has been hit by a number of embarrassing IT glitches.

Back in 2012, the organisation admitted to double-billing two million transactions made by its current account customers, although it blamed the glitch on human error rather than an issue with IT. Two years ago, its services were hit by an IT error, leaving many of its customers unable to access online banking, mobile banking and online payment services.
