Asus launches ZenWatch 2 smartwatch with digital crown to rival Apple Watch

ZenPads and Windows 10-powered Transformer Book T100HA also announced

Asus has unveiled a ZenWatch 2 Android Wear smartwatch alongside two ZenPad tablets and a Transformer Book T100HA convertible at Computex in Taiwan.

The ZenWatch 2 is the follow up to Asus' original ZenWatch wearable and features a reworked design that adds a physical watch crown like the one seen on the Apple Watch.

The ZenWatch 2 will also feature two 49x41mm and 45x37mm size options. Both are built of stainless steel with Gorilla Glass 3 2.5D Amoled screens, and are IP67 certified making them water and dust resistant.

Asus has been cagey about the ZenWatch 2's exact specifications and has yet to reveal battery size, screen resolution or processor.

All that is known from a hardware perspective is that it will be powered by a new proprietary magnetic charger that Asus claims will "dramatically improve charge times".

The ZenWatch 2 will run using "the latest" version of Google's Android Wear mobile operating system overlaid with Asus' custom ZenUI software.

The software adds a number of features, including a Remote Camera, Wellness and Watch Face Land apps. Remote Camera lets users control their smartphone's front and rear camera using the ZenWatch 2.

Wellness is a fitness app that Asus claims offers improved activity tracking services. The Face Land app lets users create custom watch faces for the ZenWatch 2.

Asus also unveiled the ZenPad 8 and ZenPad S 8 tablets, and a Transformer Book T100HA convertible.

The ZenPad 8.0 features an interchangeable cover design that lets users customise it to work better in different situations.

Asus showcased a variety of covers including an Audio Cover that adds 5.1-channel surround sound and a Power Case that improves battery life.

Asus has not disclosed the ZenPad 8.0's full specs other than that it will use an Intel Atom X3-C3200 processor with 3GB RAM.

The ZenPad S 8.0 is the more powerful of the two and features an 8in 1536x2048, IPS, 324ppi with Tru2Life Plus display, 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 processor, 4GB of RAM and USB Type-C port.

The ZenPad S 8.0 also supports Asus' Z Stylus digital stylus, which will be sold as an optional add on.

Both tablets will run an unspecified version of Android.

Finally, the 10in Transformer Book T100HA is the follow up to Asus' Transformer Book Chi T100 and comes with several updated internal components.

The T100HA will be powered by a quad-core Intel Atom Cherry Trail X5 series processor with 4GB of RAM and Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system preinstalled.

Asus has yet to disclose the ZenWatch 2, ZenPads or Transformer Book T100HA's prices or release dates.
