China Telecom official spills the beans on imminent Apple iPhone 6s release

Start saving. You've got two weeks

A China Telecom official has leaked specifications and release dates for Apple's forthcoming iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus releases, with the announcement being lined up for 9 September - two weeks today.

According to the leak reported on Chinese micro-blogging website Weibo, since taken down, while the announcement will be made on the 9th, the devices will be available between 18 September and 25 September.

The report largely confirmed many of the more boring rumours that have done the rounds for the past six months, with the screens featuring the same "Force Touch" technology debuted in Apple's smartwatch. Force Touch, as the name implies, is able to differentiate between different types of pressure applied to the screen by the user.

Memory will weigh in at 2GB, while the built-in rear-facing camera will sport a 12-megapixel sensor. Powering the devices will be an Apple A9 64-bit ARM-based microprocessor.

However, the official was unable to confirm whether a new rose-gold coloured option would be offered, nor whether a smaller, four-inch iPhone 6c, or larger 12.9-inch iPad Pro tablet, would be launched at the same time.

If the report proves to be accurate, the launch will widely be regarded as somewhat humdrum - with no especially new features to wow the crowds and customers.

There is also the question of the iPhone 4s and 5c models and whether they will be updated and, of course, pricing. With the smartphone market starting to cool down and global growth falling close to single-digit percentages, Apple may face price pressures as Android devices continue to take the lion's share of the market.
