EMC announces Native Hybrid Cloud for developers based on new VCE VxRack System

EMC offers enterprises a turnkey platform to get started with cloud DevOps

EMC has launched a new platform for developing and deploying cloud-native applications both on customer premises and e public cloud services. Built using the open standard Cloud Foundry software and based on a new VxRack hyperconverged hardware platfotm, the solution aims to speed app development.

Unveiled at the EMC World event in Las Vegas, Native Hybrid Cloud is a fully integrated and engineered platform designed to enable rapid application development and delivery while providing the needed protection, controls and insight to IT, EMC said.

Native Hybrid Cloud is designed as a turnkey solution that can simply be plugged into a customer's data centre, so that the organisation can get up and running as quickly as possible.

A key part of the solution is the Cloud Foundry platform-as-a-service (PaaS) developed by Pivotal, one of the EMC Federation companies. This is already widely adopted as the platform of choice for developing cloud-native applications.

The hardware side of the equation is made up of the VxRack System 1000, a new hyperconverged system from VCE, another one of the EMC Federation companies. It is based on x86 server nodes with integrated storage and virtualisation.

Customers can choose between VxRack System 1000 with Neutrino Nodes configuration that uses OpenStack as the infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) layer, or a VxRack System with FLEX Nodes configuration based on VMware's vSphere.

But in addition to deploying apps on their own infrastructure, Native Hybrid Cloud offers provisioning to public cloud environments, including Virtustream, VMware vCloud Air, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Compute Engine, enabling customers to optimise their investments by taking advantage of a hybrid cloud operating model.

EMC said that the complete system is supported as a single product and deployable in days, enabling customers to significantly reduce the cost, time, complexity and uncertainty associated with deploying and maintaining a cloud-native solution and navigating the cultural shift to DevOps.

"In the new digital economy, innovation and agility trumps all. Enterprises differentiate themselves through rapid innovation and agile services delivery. An engineered platform that integrates cloud-native IaaS with Pivotal's cloud-native platform, EMC's Native Hybrid Cloud overcomes the challenge in business and IT transformation to enable developers to deliver innovation through new applications, software and digital services better and faster," said Chad Sakac, president of VCE, EMC Converged Platforms Division.

Native Hybrid Cloud running on VxRack System with either Neutrino Nodes or FLEX Nodes will be available from the third quarter of this year, EMC said.
