Tesco Bank is hiring a chief data officer

CDO will work in company's Edinburgh office, and report to the chief customer officer

Tesco Bank is on the hunt for a chief data officer (CDO) to work in its Edinburgh office.

The bank, which is owned by supermarket giant Tesco, provides insurance, mortgages, current accounts, credit cards, savings and loans.

The bank claims to have a "clear vision of enterprise data, managed as a service in support of data-driven decision-making", and the job ad states that the new CDO would be primarily responsible for making that vision a reality.

The CDO position will be a new one within Tesco Bank, as the company aims to place more importance on data. The CDO will report to the chief customer officer, and work closely with the executive leadership team, the CIO, strategic partners and colleagues across the bank, in a bid to improve the way data is collected, stored and used to drive better business outcomes.

The CDO will be tasked with being the key "data strategist" and adviser to the business, and will aim to improve data quality, encourage the reuse of data assets, improve the provision of data to Tesco Bank customers, colleagues and business processes, and develop new data products.

According to the job spec, the successful candidate will have to deliver data-as-a-service across the bank, including coordinating how the bank provides APIs. They will have to decrease the cost of managing data, while simultaneously increasing the value of the data the bank processes.

The CDO will have to improve the way the bank collects, uses, manages and publishes data both internally and externally, while ensuring that data is available, reliable, consistent, accessible, secure and timely in support of Tesco Bank and Tesco Group's overall objectives.

The applicant will have to have proven data experience at a senior level, along with a track record of successfully leading teams dealing with large, complex data landscapes with different reporting and analytics requirements.

The job ad states that a professional qualification, degree or post-graduate degree in IT or a data-related subject would be an asset, while the ability to represent and understand the perspective of all internal and external stakeholders is a prerequisite.
