AWS veteran Adam Selipsky takes over as CEO at Tableau
Co-founder Christian Chabot steps down to make way for Adam Selipsky
Tableau co-founder Christian Chabot is stepping down as CEO to be replaced by Amazon Web Services (AWS) veteran Adam Selipsky. Selipsky will officially take over on 16 September.
Selipsky currently serves as vice president for marketing, sales and support at AWS, a company he has worked at for over decade, and has also spent time at RealNetworks, the video and media firm.
He said that taking over as CEO of Tableau is a great honour and that he believes the firm has a huge opportunity ahead as more businesses become reliant on analysing the data they gather to make key operating decisions.
"The company is positioned to become the new world standard in analytics. I'm honoured to join the leadership team and all the great people that have fuelled Tableau's disruption of business analytics," he said.
"As we add capabilities for our customers, deepen our enterprise presence, and expand into the cloud, our mission remains unchanged: to help people see and understand their data."
Meanwhile, Chabot, who has led Tableau for 14 years, said that he believes Selipsky is the ideal person to take the company to the next level given his experience at a firm with the clout of AWS.
"His experience in making AWS the world's leading cloud platform, his passion for servicing customers at a global scale, and his authentic team player attitude make him an extraordinary fit for Tableau," he said.
"He is the right person to lead Tableau to the next stage of growth."
Earlier this year Tableau announced the opening of a new data centre in Dublin to expand the company's presence in Europe. The new facility is backed up by a disaster recovery operation in Munich to ensure that Tableau's cloud services remain up and running if the Dublin centre goes down.
